Supporting Brain Injury Awareness Month and Beyond
March 2025
March is Brain Injury Awareness Month
This March, we recognize Brain Injury Awareness Month and highlight the ongoing journey of recovery for individuals who have experienced a traumatic brain injury (TBI). At CLASS, we are dedicated to providing crucial support and fostering community reintegration for TBI survivors.
The path to recovery after a TBI often extends far beyond initial medical treatment. While immediate care is vital, the transition back into the community presents a unique set of challenges. For individuals like Tyree, reclaiming independence requires immense effort. This underscores the critical role of programs like the Structured Day Program at CLASS.
The gap between medical recovery and successful community reintegration can be significant. Traditional services often focus on the immediate aftermath, leaving a need for long-term, holistic support. Survivors face not only physical limitations but also cognitive, emotional, and social hurdles.
Our Structured Day Program steps in to fill this gap, offering structured support and personalized guidance. We focus on skill development, vocational training, and community engagement to empower individuals to rebuild their lives.

Medicaid Matters: Advocate Today
As discussions around healthcare and social services continue, it's crucial to understand the vital role Medicaid plays in our community. For CLASS, Medicaid is a lifeline for the individuals we serve, their families, and even some of our employees. See how you can help advocate to preserve and protect this vital lifeline.
Proposed cuts to Medicaid, work requirements, and funding restrictions would have a devastating impact on our community and the vital services CLASS provides. This includes:
- Loss of Direct Support Workforce: Reduced reimbursement rates will force cuts to already low wages, leading to a loss of our dedicated workforce.
- Work Requirements Harm: Work requirements are discriminatory and harmful, especially for individuals with disabilities and family caregivers who may not be able to work.
- Transportation as a Necessity: Medicaid transportation is vital for accessing work, school, and medical appointments. Cuts will isolate people.
